Frequently Asked Questions for Faculty

We appreciate you may have many questions regarding Esalen’s temporary closure. We have compiled these frequently asked questions to support you. These questions will be updated as more information becomes available.

Q. Is there a reported case of COVID-19 at Esalen?

No, there is no current case of COVID-19 at Esalen. However, by extending our closure we are following best practices for social distancing to help ensure the safety and wellbeing of our community both at Esalen and beyond.

Q. How long will Esalen be closed?

We have extended our closure through May 9, 2020 with a new anticipated open date of Sunday, May 10, 2020. This is based on current information and could change based on guidance from local, state and federal agencies.

Q. Should I be contacting my students?

If your workshop falls under the temporary closure, your students will have been notified by our Guest Services team directly.

Q. Who is left on Esalen’s campus?

We have kept staff essential to core business operations on our Big Sur campus. We are also allowing any staff member who was at Esalen when the shelter in place order went into effect to stay at Esalen.

Q. Is Esalen open for night bathing?

No, night bathing is part of Esalen’s temporary closure.

Q. Is Esalen open for Healing Arts massage appointments?

No, all Healing Arts appointments have been cancelled and will be refunded as part of Esalen’s temporary closure.

We will be closed for four weeks beginning March 15, 2020.

Q. When will Esalen reopen?

We have tentatively scheduled a reopen date of April 12, 2020; however, this is based on information we have now and could change as new information becomes available. We continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation and will follow guidance provided by federal and state agencies. 

Q. What is Esalen’s cancellation policy?

Any guest with a reservation during our closure will receive a full refund. There is no reason to contact our Guest Services team to request this refund. Please allow 10 business days for us to complete the transaction. Our normal cancellation policy applies when Esalen reopens.

Q. How can I connect with my students?

We are exploring ways to support connection across our larger community. If you are interested in participating please contact your Program Specialist.
